Death of Wrestling: Dolph Ziggler

Post  Dolph Ziggler on Sun Mar 10, 2013 4:48 pm

Greetings to all… It’s David Davis with my weekly blog: Death of Wrestling. For all of those who read this regularly, you will know that this is not a blog about bashing wrestling; it’s a blog of a frustrated fan, who loves the business and wishes that each week it could be a little better.

We all know that wrestling is a work. We all know that the matches are predetermined and the winners and losers are set in stone before the wrestlers even step through the curtain… so does it really matter who wins and who loses..?

We know that the wrestlers themselves think so or at least we think we know this. Hulk Hogan is often talked about as a man who refused to lose to certain people at one time or another – how true that is we’ll never know for sure… but the theory makes sense – I mean who wants to lose???

We also know that the major wrestling organisations protect certain wrestlers – John Cena for instance is unlikely to lose more than a couple of matches in a row. Why? Because they don’t want their top face to appear weak…

So what is my point I hear you say… Well it can be summed up in two words: Dolph Ziggler. Alright, maybe not summed up, but at least hinted at! For those of you who don’t know, Dolph is the current MITB winner; he proudly carries the briefcase with him wherever he goes…

As we all know, apart from John Cena, every winner of the MITB match has gone on to win the big one, the crème de la crème, the heavyweight championship! So that means that every time I see Mr. Nemeth walking to the ring I am looking at the future of the WWE.

I can only hope and assume that the WWE is not wanting Ziggler’s reign to be as lackluster as Jack Swagger’s, so why is Dolph in perpetual wrestling limbo?!? I mean, he losses way more than he wins, and my question is why?

It smacks of him having major heat, the kind of heat that only comes from spitting in Vince’s face, but if that were true then he’d have been stripped of that MITB briefcase a long time ago, and he almost certainly wouldn’t have been put with AJ a girl who until she was put with Dolph was talked about as the WWE’s number one Diva…

No, the truth must be much simpler. It must be due to the credit of Ziggler’s work. One could argue that the Showoff bumps around the ring even better than the Showstopper ever did. You only have to look at his match with ADR to know that he will put on a stellar match even if the WWE decides to relegate their champion to the hour match, instead of the main event where it rightfully belongs.

BUT my question is: will all of these losses eventually ruin his reign as champion? Yet again we only have to look at recent events; Jack Swagger to be precise, whose storyline before his recent return was a losing streak that was so bad, he quit the company, albeit temporarily. He’s now returned to headline Wrestlemania… Really..? Really.?? Really???

We the People, can’t take him or this feud seriously, despite the fact that I think it is actually really good… But those losses hurt Jack to the point where he feels like a jobber and not a main eventer. This my friends is my fear for Dolph Ziggler.

Maybe the WWE has some kind of master plan… but my fear is that they don’t; they’re just living hand to mouth thinking that they can use Dolph to make others look good and the fans will still get behind him when the time is right… But unfortunately, as far as I am concerned, that kind of thinking will only lead to the DoW.

That’s all folks… As always, post your comments, thoughts and opinions below! Or message me on twitter and let me know what you think the ‘Death of Wrestling’ is and I might just blog about it!!! Peace and I’m out…
